Mrs May only survived the threat of a major rebellion by Brexiteer Tory MPs on Monday by accepting their amendments to another piece of trade legislation.
The pro-EU faction was furious that, earlier in the week, May's government had made a number of concessions to the Brexit-supporting faction.
It was yet another resignation by a Government minister in a little over a week over the Prime Minister's Chequers plan and the Brexit white paper.
She acknowledged that some lawmakers had doubts about her plans to stick to a "common rule book" with the bloc for goods and agricultural products in return for free trade, without tariffs or border customs checks, but insisted she couldn't see a viable alternative.
Government sources confirmed that parliament will, on Tuesday, vote on whether to allow MPs to start their six week leave five days ahead of schedule, according to the Telegraph's Christopher Hope.
The rebels included Guto Bebb, MP for the marginal seat of Aberconwy in North Wales and a junior defence minister, who dramatically resigned from his government job as he entered the No lobby with his fellow rebel MPs.
