Bloomberg reports that Rosenstein met with the president last week and that's when the Deputy AG gave the president the assurance according to people familiar with the matter.
The president has been openly critical of both Mueller and Rosenstein on Twitter in recent days, criticizing them for their involvement in what he called the "Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation".
