China's defunct Tiangong-1 space lab re-entered the Earth's atmosphere breaking apart above the South Pacific on Monday at 00:16 GMT.
It said in a statement they had confirmed re-entry in coordination with counterparts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Britain.
"It did exactly what it was expected to do; the predictions, at least the past 24 hours' ones, were spot on; and as expected it fell somewhere empty and did no damage", said Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Scientists had earlier said it might be possible to see the spacecraft burn up in a "series of fireballs streaking across the sky".
The "vast majority" of the craft burnt up on re-entry, at around 8:15 a.m. (04:45 Kabul time), the authority said in a brief statement on its website, without saying exactly where the remnants might have landed.
Anything that did make it through the atmosphere "will be at the bottom of the ocean by now", he added. The exact timing of the space lab's return to Earth was fine-tuned over the following days.
A Chinese spaceflight engineer denied earlier this year that the lab was out of control.
In contrast, Russian Federation brought down its massive Mir space station through a controlled re-entry over the Pacific Ocean in 2001.

The "space lab" was part of China's planned research as it works toward a permanently staffed space station.
"There's a specific location in the ocean known as the spacecraft graveyard where nations try and put down into", he said.
China had said re-entry would happen in late 2017, but that process was delayed, leading some experts to suggest the space laboratory was out of control.
China launched an upgraded human-rated experiment lab, Tiangong 2, in September 2016.
According to Chinese analysts by 2024, Chinese space station will be the only one in operation as Mir is set to complete its life span by that time. Xinhua news agency says the window is between 8:11 a.m. and 9:33 a.m.
A mission to land another rover on Mars and bring back samples is set to launch in 2020, while China also plans to become the first country to soft-land a probe on the far side of the moon. "It was occupied by two separate crews of three astronauts, or taikonauts, each - a mission in June 2012 included China's first female astronaut, Liu Yang".
The agency said calmer space weather was now expected as a high-speed stream of solar particles did not cause an increase in the density of the upper atmosphere, as previously expected.
