On Wednesday, search operations resumed after an empty boat that belongs to Pierre Agnes Quiksilver surfwear brand CEO washed ashore on the southwest coast of France.
Maritime authorities said two boats and three helicopters were involved in the search. The U.S. investment company Oaktree Capital controls Boardriders and owned a 19 percent share in Billabong. His boat later washed up on the shore of a French beach, but there was no sign of Agnes.
The area is known for intense, sometimes risky waves and boasts surf breaks pursued by the world's best surfers.
Authorities are searching for Agnes after his boat was discovered run aground and empty.
Boardriders Inc. released a statement saying it is devastated by the news, and given that the situation on the ground is still evolving, its statement will be limited.
