The Medical Examiner's Office will make a final determination as to the cause of death.
The man who was arrested after his wife was found strangled to death at the bottom of a staircase inside their Brooklyn home was previously arrested for strangling her until she was unconscious several months ago, The Post has learned.
The NYPD says it has suspended two officers after questions arose about how they responded to check on a woman who was later found dead.
Wells' daughter was found on the basement steps of their brownstone by their neighbors who heard the crying child, according toNBC.
The officers supposedly responded to the home of Tonie Wells, 22, in Crown Heights on Wednesday at about 8:40 a.m., reported no signs of distress and then left. Her neck was bruised and her body showed other signs of trauma, police said.
Sources told PIX11 that Wells and her husband had a history of domestic violence and that police were called to the home at least once before.
She was apparently strangled and thrown down he stairs, law enforcement sources said. Charges for Barry Wells are pending.

"They seemed like a nice family", neighbor Michelle Ruiz said of the couple.
"They didn't even go up to the house", the source said.
Cops took her husband into custody for questioning.
"An initial determination deemed this person's death to be suspicious and it is now being investigated", said deputy chief Michael Kempfer, according to CBS News.
"I always speak to how proud I am of our officers, but unfortunately when we don't live up to that standard we have to fully investigate", Police Commissioner James O'Neill said in a statement.
