- A CHP officer was killed this morning in a crash on southbound Interstate Highway 880 just north of state Highway 92 in Hayward according to CHP Golden Gate. A second officer in the vehicle was treated at a hospital and released.
The driver, a Hayward resident, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, most likely marijuana. Officials say his partner was sitting in the driver's seat of their patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.
Andrew Camilleri, 33, was married and had three children who expected their father to come home and help them open Christmas presents, said Asst.

Palestinian girl filmed trying to provoke soldiers is arrested
Tamimi was arrested a day after a video of her slapping two Israeli occupation soldiers in a West Bank village went viral . On Monday night, the army balanced the scales by arresting the girl who had instigated the troubling encounter.
The two officers were assigned to a "maximum enforcement" Christmas Eve patrol for drunken drivers and speeders and were parked on the shoulder of southbound I-880 near the Winton Avenue on-ramp when the auto left the roadway and struck them from behind, Nacke said.
Velasquez was in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle when he and Camilleri were hit. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The CHP said the woman, whose name was not released, was from Corcoran.
