The Supreme Court yesterday deferred hearing in the case for February 8, 2018.

In a fresh twist in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, the Sunni Waqf Board on Wednesday said that they differ with senior lawyer Kapil Sibal's arguments in the Supreme Court seeking postponement of hearing in the matter till the 2019 polls, saying they favour an immediate solution to the long-standing dispute.
"Today Sunni Waqf Board has said what Kapil Sibal told the court on Tuesday on our behalf was wrong", Prime Minister told an election rally here."Yeh khotu kauchhey.Sunni Waqf Board ne kauchhey (What Sibal said was wrong, Sunni Waqf Board has said)", Mr Modi said referring to the statement made by Haji Mehboob of the Sunni Waqf Board.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), which is not a party to the case, however, favoured deferring the hearing till after the next general elections claiming that the time was not right for the same now. We want a solution to the issue at the earliest. He, however, noted that the Congress has said the views expressed by Sibal, who represents the Sunni Waqf Board in the case in the Supreme Court, were his own.
