Police rushed to London's Oxford Circus on Friday, sparking fears of a terror attack, but they have now stood down after finding no evidence to support reports of shots fired, the Metropolitan Police said.
There were reports of people running out of the Tube station on Friday afternoon.
"If you are on Oxford Street go into a building and stay inside until further direction".
Metropolitan Police said officers responded to the incident as if it was terrorism given the nature of the information received.
Hundreds of people have been relocated from the Oxford Circus tube station due to reports of gunshots.
Oxford Circus station was evacuated, while thousands of people were cordoned away from the area as a large police presence descended on the scene.

"Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related". Bond Street station is also closed.
"Our response on #OxfordStreet has now been stood down".
Oxford Circus is one of the British capital's most popular retail streets and many would have been finishing work to enjoy their Friday nights or Christmas shopping.
"We have not located any trace of suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties", they added.
"They were crying, they were screaming, they were dropping their shopping bags".
