The trade officially went down on Saturday: Richard Jefferson was traded from Cleveland to Atlanta, along with Kay Felder, for a couple of second-round picks in what was a salary dump move by the Cavaliers. The 2019 pick will be the lesser pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers that had been owed to the Cavaliers, and the 2020 pick is from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Jefferson, 37, averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds last season in his 16th National Basketball Association campaign.
For the Cavs, the trade trims to their roster to the necessary 15-player limit before their season opener against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.
Atlanta sent the Cavaliers the draft rights to 22-year-old Greek forward Dimitrios Agravanis, who has played the past four years for Olympiacos of Greece, and Ukrainian guard Sergiy Gladyr, who has played the past two seasons for Monaco. The Cavaliers will save $12.8 million in luxury tax by unloading the two contracts. Jefferson's excellent presence in the Cavs locker room culminated in the creation of the Road Trippin' podcast featuring Jefferson, teammate Channing Frye, and Fox Sports Ohio reporter Allie Clifton.
