The recent movement of thousands of Rohingya refugees from the Rakhine in Myanmar across the border has remained one of the most ignored refugee crises in the world.
The process of repatriation of Rohingyas has started on Monday, albeit the entire exercise is in its very initial stage.
"Myanmar has made a proposal to take back the Rohingya refugees", the minister told reporters.
Under that agreement almost a quarter of a million Rohingya were repatriated from Bangladesh to Myanmar between the early 1990s and 2005, he explained.
"We are looking forward to a peaceful solution to the crisis", said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
He said the refugees would be verified by the joint working group, and the United Nations would not be involved.

Under the agreement [Myanmar Times report], refugees would have the option to return to Rakhine State and will only return "under safe conditions".
"This was not an investigation mission and could not be in the circumstances", it said, adding the government should allow a United Nations fact-finding mission into the region.

"Nowhere is the link between statelessness and displacement more evident than with the Rohingya community of Myanmar, for whom denial of citizenship is a key aspect of the discrimination and exclusion that have shaped their plight", he said.
"The Royal Thai Government has always placed great importance to providing care and protection to Myanmar displaced persons", it added, pointing to some 100,000 refugees from Myanmar who live in nine camps along the Thai-Myanmar border.
