European oropendola Oriolus oriolus is a species of passerine bird about 25 cm long, from the Oriolidae family. It is typical of the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Winter in the tropics, then emigrate to Europe and the Middle East to spend the summer. Its scientific name comes from the Latin aurum , «golden», «golden bird».
It is a clever and elusive bird of fast and short flights between the branches although it reaches flights very high in their migrations. Its golden plumage makes it very easy to confuse it with solar flares. Build nests with great speed, nest in forests with preference for water courses. They are monogamous, territorial and migratory. They usually put two or three eggs, but they can reach six.
Male . Characteristic with golden yellow body, with black wing and tail.
Female . Similar to the male. Above olive green, below, whitish, faintly striped dark red on the chest; dark red wings and tail with less yellow and less lively.
