When you drive along the rural road leading to the village of Adjuntas, from Utuado, it is inevitable to stop to observe the beautiful view of the Great River of Arecibo. When traveling in this area, it is difficult not to admire the countryside, to feel the cool breeze, to feel the usual drizzle in the area, to contemplate the mountains and the jets of water along the way.has reached the town of Adjuntas, it is advisable to stop at Casa Pueblo, the headquarters of the Art and Culture Workshop, a community self-management organization that promotes through voluntary and voluntary participation, which proposes and develops alternatives for protect the environment and affirm cultural and human values. Casa Pueblo is run by engineer Alexis Massol González.
The visitor can enjoy a talk about the development and achievements achieved by Casa Pueblo through community self-management. In addition, you will be able to take a tour with an interpreter guide for the different areas of interest such as the craft shop, library, antique room, historical photo gallery, grinding and packaging of Madre Isla Coffee, solar energy system, hydroponic system, plant nursery , butterflies and their laboratory.
If you have organized an appointment in time, visitors will also be able to take a tour of the Forest of the People, protected forest area and co-managed by the organization together with the Department of Resources Natural and Environmental (DRNA). In fact, this was the first example of community co-management of a state forest in Puerto Rico.
Once mining was over, Casa Pueblo began an intense campaign in 1995, aimed at transforming the area into a Puerto Rican forest protected by Act No. 133 of July 1, 1975, known as the Puerto Rico Forest Law.
Adjuntas State Forest
In its official documentation, DRNA reports that the forest lands are located between Vegas Arriba, Vegas Abajo and Pellets of Adjuntas and Council of Utuado. It is located between the Pellejas and Viví rivers main tributaries of the Dos Bocas reservoir. This forest is also located between three state forests: Guilarte, Río Abajo and Toro Negro. It has a territorial extension of 760 cuerdas. Its elevation fluctuates between 500 and 600 meters above sea level at its highest peaks. It is identified as secondary subtropical humid forest.

Casa Pueblo has distinguished itself for several years official welcome to Julián Chiví, a symbol of the Bosque del Pueblo. Natural importance and ecological value
The People's Forest plays an important role in the conservation of watersheds and natural areas. The tributaries of the Rio Grande de Arecibo are born in this forest and supply water to more than 1.2 million inhabitants.
Law 14 defines a biological corridor as the natural corridor linking two or more forest systems in order to expand the habitat of the species, facilitating their free reproduction and movement.
Village there is an abundant wildlife. Some examples of species of flora that inhabit this place are: pomarrosa, granadillo, saw palm, red palo, yagrumo female, laurel geo, oak, guama, maricao, giant fern and some jaguilla specimens. Some species of fauna that can be found are: common coquí, melodious coquí, coquí churi and frog of white lip. You can also find reptiles such as the garden lizard, blue-eyed lizard, giant lizard of Puerto Rico and the green lizard.
Among the birds that can be seen are the carpenter, eat me, well I see you , San Pedrito and the Puerto Rican Mutant. In addition, the forest provides habitat for many migratory species during the winter months.
Model Forest in the Adjunct Lands
Massol González reported that the Town near the La Olimpia Forest belong to the World Network of Model Forests. He stated that Casa Pueblo was awarded a prize for the management of this forest "as a forest whose management is a model for the entire world and that the other model forests of the planet Earth have a forest that must be looked at and emulated."
According to the global network, the Model Forest in the "Adjacent Lands" covers 10 municipalities corresponding to the largest conservation district on the island. The area also has six reservoirs that supply energy and potable water, and watersheds of great importance for the sustainable development of communities. It is a mountainous zone with elevations from 300 to 1360 msnm, including the highest point of the island, Cerro Punta. It also connects the five forests to the biological corridor.
