As Homeland Security secretary, Kelly was tasked with protecting US borders and overseeing immigration policies, two centerpieces of Trump's presidential campaign.
On Friday, as Trump traveled to NY, he took both Scaramucci and Priebus on Air Force One with him. Later in the day, the New Yorker magazine published a Wednesday interview in which Scaramucci said he had reported Priebus to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice for an alleged "felony".
Who are the White House staff Mr Scaramucci threatened to sack?
JUDY WOODRUFF: Well, it is - as you and I were just saying, it's one more tumultuous day in what's been nonstop tumult. "I'm on Team Trump".
"We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!", he said.
"I didn't notice tension in the room, but honestly I likely wouldn't have if it was there-with such a short amount of time for a high-profile assignment my attention was all going to the viewfinder", he said. Scaramucci was reportedly angling for the chief of staff position before President Trump took office, but Priebus was named instead. Trump loyalists had chafed at Priebus, feeling he had installed his RNC allies at the White House and overlooked the people close to Trump who helped get him elected president in November.
Mr Priebus, as the former chairman of the Republican National Committee, is a key establishment figure.
"I think General Kelly is a brilliant pick", Priebus continued.
Maybe this kind of language still plays well among some of Trump's base - drain the swamp at all costs! - but it is pathetically uncouth and degrading for the White House.
'My organization has not targeted these so-called DREAMers, DACA, and we have many, many more important criminals to go after and get rid of, and not the DACAs, ' he said, referencing another program dealing with parents of children who are USA citizens. I think it is a good time to hit the reset button.
