The pilgrims were travelling in a bus which was caught in the crossfire after terrorists attacked police patrol party. A police official said the vehicle came under fire at Anantnag's Batengo area around 8.30 p.m.
"The attack can not be condemned strongly enough, ?" Police claimed the bus driver had violated rules, which state that no pilgrim vehicle should be on a highway after 7 pm.
The injured have been taken to the Army Base Hospital in Srinagar.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi also expressed sorrow over the attack, asking for an investigation into lapses in security. "These are enemies of Islam, these are terrorists, and the attack should be investigated".
The bus that was attacked had come from Sonmarg. She said the Yatra will continue despite the attack on pilgrims. Prime Minister has also spoken to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Shri NN Vohra and Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti and assured all possible assistance required.

Earlier, the Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu due to law and order situation in Kashmir Valley where life was affected due to curfew and shutdown in the wake of first death anniversary of Burhan Wani. The yatra began on June 28 for 40 days and would culminate on shrvan purnima later in August beginning.
