The Atlanta Braves released a statement of support for former infielder Keith Lockhart whose son is on life support after getting hit in the face with a baseball last week.
Lockhart's son, 15-year-old Jason Lockhart, was playing in a SC baseball tournament on June 17 when he was hit by a ball as he crossed home plate, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The ball hit Jason and broke his nose.
Jason needed stitches and was recovering, until his nose began to bleed while at the doctor's office on Monday. "Jason was meant to return to surgery on Monday to have his nose repacked, but it was rescheduled because, "[his] body [was] responding a bit slower than anticipated", said Sydney.
According to a post by Sydney, Jason was placed into a paralytic state through medicine and machines on Friday night to prevent movement that could cause more bleeding. A CT scan showed a tear inside his nose from the impact, and doctor's diagnosed it as a lacerated artery. Subsequent surgeries have taken place to help find the cause of the bleeding, and on Sunday Keith Lockhart tweeted that the doctors located three areas of bleeding and stopped the flow of blood.
Jason underwent surgery to fix the fracture in his nose, but the bleeding persisted.

Jason Lockhart's sister, Sydney, gave an update on his condition Tuesday. "We are surrounded by so many people and we are feeling the prayers". They are hopeful that this is the source of the bleeding.
On Sunday, Jason underwent surgery to do an endovascular embolization, cutting off the blood supply of the two areas determined to be feeding the locations where the teen was bleeding most heavily. The surgery was a couple of hours long and Jason is now resting still on the ventilator to keep his vitals monitored and keep him comfortable.
"Thanks so much for all the outpouring prayers & support for Jay", Lockhart tweeted last week.
