"If there were not good cause, it would not matter to me what anybody said", he said. "If there were not good cause, it would not matter to me what anybody said", he said.
Asked if he would fire Mueller on the president's orders, he said: "I'm not going to follow any orders unless I believe those are lawful and appropriate orders". Comey himself said when he testified before the Senate last week that he was "sure" that Mueller's investigation would look into a potential obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump.
Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., speaks to reporters after leaving a briefing of the full Senate by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, amid controversy.
While the White House has denied any intention to fire Mueller, close associates of Trump, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, are increasingly criticizing the Russian Federation probe as too "political".
They say Trump did not collude with Russian Federation and see the investigation as a politically motivated sham that handicaps Trump's ability to execute his agenda, according to one person who advises the White House on how to handle the probe. "And I'm not going to speculate on what he will or will not do", Sekulow said.
PBS' Judy Woodruff reported Monday that Ruddy told her after visiting the White House that Trump is "considering perhaps terminating" Mueller - a decision that would set off a massive political backlash.
Conservative media, led by Newsmax CEO and Trump friend Chris Ruddy, have suggested that the interview shows Mueller has a conflict in his special counsel investigation.

Instagram Adds Option to Share Replay of Live Video to Instagram Stories
Originally, live videos on Instagram disappeared as soon as the broadcast ended, but now they could exist for up to 24 hours. Instagram introduced live video streaming last November with a focus on private live streams for friends and followers.
The revelation came after Ruddy was at the White House on Monday for a meeting with Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.
Asked if he had seen any evidence to suggest Mueller be fired, Rosenstein replied, "No, I have not". "I personally think it would be a significant mistake".
Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, declined to comment on Ruddy's remarks.
White House officials said late Monday that Ruddy was at the Executive Mansion that day, but said he hadn't met with the president and never spoke with him about the issue. Firing another investigator will force even his allies in Congress to deal with constituents who will demand to know if their president is neither.
"I will not reveal who my sources are, but I felt confidence in saying it and it was consistent in what the president's own attorney said", Ruddy said in a Tuesday interview on MSNBC. They did not explain how they would push that idea through a Republican Congress.
Trump's best play would be to allow Mueller to do his job without interference, and - if Trump is telling the truth - declare the issue is dead for lack of substance.
If Mueller knew he was going to be named special counsel, it is unlikely he divulged that information to Trump.
"This is an illegitimate special council", Ruddy said.
