The brief news conference - where each President will take two questions from the press - comes the day after James Comey's bombshell Capitol Hill testimony in which the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director accused the White House of "lies". But still, it would be interesting to know what James Comey might have done if Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump's attorney general, had ordered him to refer to the FBI's probe of possible collusion with the Russians as a "matter", not an "investigation".
After his dismissal, Comey leaked shocking details of a series of meetings with Trump, in which the president allegedly asked for Comey's "loyalty" and suggested that he shelve an FBI investigation into Trump's national security adviser. Several times Comey called Trump a liar, said the president presumably fired him because of his Russian Federation investigation and described possible obstruction of justice, including a request from Trump to let go of the probe of Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation.
"No I didn't say that", Trump stated abruptly, taking questions Friday at a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in the Rose Garden. "But we were very, very happy and, frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things that he said just weren't true", Trump said.
"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Mr Trump wrote.
"I'll tell you about [it] over a fairly short period of time", he said.
He also pointed to Comey's revelation that he had asked a friend to pass along to the press memos he had written documenting his interactions with Trump.
Comey also explained why he recorded his private talks with the U.S. president, saying that he was afraid Trump might "lie" about them.

Trump says Comey cleared him. He didn't
Trump will most likely be questioned about Thursday's testimony by former FBI Director James Comey . An AP Fact Check finds that's not what the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation chief did.
On Friday, Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski criticized Comey as not "man enough" for having leaked the memo via his friend rather than doing it himself. But why didn't you stop and say, 'Mr. Admiral Rogers testified that the President never "directed [him] to do anything. illegal, immoral, unethical or inappropriate" and never "pressured [him] to do so".
"There is a cloud over the presidency, the president said, and that is rightly so", Schumer said on CBS's "Face the Nation".
"Why can't you say now if there are tapes, sir?"
The Trump administration fired Comey in early May, citing his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation during the 2016 United States presidential elections. Clinton, facing impeachment and removal from office by a Republican-controlled Congress, drew closer to his liberal base in his second term, after initial years of forging a more moderate, fiscally conservative path. Lawmakers could turn on Trump if the investigation unearths more damaging material. "I'm not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance".
Harvard Law School professor Mark Tushnet said onlookers should keep in mind that Comey knows much more than he can say, calling his testimony a "big deal".
