I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!
Breitbart News has independently confirmed this reporting and that Trump has told others the same thing: that he plans to withdraw the USA from the agreement.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said it was "very hard, very unsatisfactory to have a whole discussion about climate change, with six G7 leaders against one".
In an interview scheduled to be broadcast on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday, meanwhile, defense secretary James Mattis said the White House had "obviously got a discussion going on about our policy in this regard". He had previously threatened to pull out.
It was unclear whether those meetings would still take place. During the meeting, representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris agreement, with the exception of the United States.
Trump makes G-7 deal on trade, takes rain check on climate
Trump has flip-flopped on campaign promises before, and, as Axios noted, he spent a lot of time on his recent trip with his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, who are both advocates of the agreement.
Earlier on Saturday, the President tweeted from Italy that he would make his final decision next week as to whether the US will remain in the Paris Accord.
Merkel on Saturday labeled the result of the "six against one" discussion "very hard, not to say very unsatisfactory". The position makes the United States the lone holdout on endorsing the agreement during the G7 summit in Italy.
The Paris deal is the world's first comprehensive climate agreement, set out in 2015, with the aim of keeping the global average rise in temperatures below 2C. Almost 200 countries had pledged support to reduce carbon emissions in the landmark global warming deal.
But it came into force only after being ratified by 55 countries, which between them produce 55% of global carbon emissions.
