Whitson and Fischer were so speedy, they were then able to tackle a few other tasks which, due to the water leak delay, NASA doubted could be done in the limited time.
So what is it like to float out into the vacuum of space?
Two hundred tangos in space and counting: today, NASA astronauts Peggy Whitson and Jack Fischer are performing the 200th American spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS). The fabric shield she and Fischer will be installing is a replacement for one that Whitson lost on a previous spacewalk. NASA TV coverage begins at 5:30 AM CDT.
During preparations earlier in the morning, a small amount of water leaked from the connection point between an umbilical hose and Fischer's suit.
Astronauts kicked off space station construction in orbit in 1998.
"This is not the suit itself".

Morata: I expected to play more at Real Madrid
Alvaro Morata admits he is frustrated by his role at Real Madrid amid speculation he could be on his way to the Premier League. Casemiro added that there are players who feature less but that does not mean that they are B-team.
For Fischer (wearing the space suit with no stripes), it will be a new experience - his first ever spacewalk.
"This is the connection point of the component in the airlock itself that provides power, oxygen, cooling water and communications lines to the two crew members while they are in the process of biding their time, pre-breathing pure oxygen, in the airlock itself".
But the spacewalk was allowed to go ahead because according to NASA procedures, the astronauts can share one functioning SCU.
The plan is for the astronauts to take turns using the SCU, and alternate using battery power in their suits.
The astronauts wasted no time removing the old electronics box, their No. 1 chore, and plugging in a new unit. According to NASA, the duo will "replace a large avionics box that supplies electricity and data connections to the science experiments", and make some preparations for an worldwide docking port. This marked Fischer's first spacewalk, and he could be heard on NASA's live stream soaking in Earth's beauty from 250 miles above the planet. She already holds the US record for most spacewalks by a female astronaut.
NASA's bulky white spacesuits are aging, and the same models have been in use for four decades.
