But with a severe lack of featherweight contenders, the UFC have taken up the clever option to use the Ultimate Fighter Series to build up the flyweight 125 lbs division.
The new season will feature a cast made up entirely of 125-pound women's fighters with the victor being crowned the first ever champion in the division. Tryouts for the show are now scheduled for Tuesday, May 23 at 8 A.M. PT in Las Vegas, Nevada. It becomes the fourth women's division inside the Octagon, joining fighters at featherweight, bantamweight and strawweight.
According to the release, fighters now signed to the UFC roster (like her) can also apply for TUF 26 if they're able to make the flyweight limit, so long as they meet the age requirement (21-34) and have a winning record.
The UFC added a 115-pound strawweight division in 2014 and a 145-pound bantamweight division this year.

UFC President Dana White had downplayed the possibility of adding a 125-pound division in recent months, suggesting the promotion wasn't ready to add another group of fighters to its large roster.
Of note, the UFC has held a women's flyweight fight, a one-off between Joanne Calderwood and Valerie Letourneau in June 2016. Although the weight classes it will feature remains unclear, "TUF 26" is scheduled to begin filming in July and will debut on Fox Sports 1 later this year.
The Invicta Fighting Championships, an all-women's promotional company with ties to the UFC, has five women's weight classes, including a 105-pound atomweight division.
