Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday that preorders for its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, have surpassed a whopping 720,000 units in just seven days, heralding a major hit for the company. "We are aiming to sell 1 million units before officially launching the smartphone", said Samsung's mobile business chief Koh Dong-jin at a media conference at its Seocho office building in Seoul. Along with the basic phone features, Galaxy S8 has another additional mind-blowing feature that made it infinitely fantastic. No information regarding the price and availability has been made available yet but it is expected that the smartphones will go on sale on April 21 in India, same as the global release date. A report stemming from The Verge indicates Samsung aims to bring foldable devices to the consumer market by 2019.
Leaks and rumors surrounding Apple's iPhone 8, which is likely to launch in September, indicate that phone could share some of the same features seen in the Galaxy S8. The two phones are priced at $750 and $850 respectively, but Korea has a high-end Galaxy S8+ with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, which costs about $1000. This is Samsung's first release after the mess that was the Note 7.
