Connor McDavid reached the 100-point mark and Jordan Eberle delivered a hat trick as the Edmonton Oilers dumped the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 in the 2016-17 National Hockey League season's final regular-season game.
The Oilers had a couple of long shifts in the Canucks' zone in the first, but it was the hosts with the best chances for the opener.
"We knew they were going to come hard", said the Canucks' Bo Horvat, who had an assist to raise his team-best points total to 52.
"We're not going to change a lot as a team", said Oilers head coach Todd McLellan. But first they'll have to knock off the Sharks who are hungry for a second consecutive trip to the Cup final. "They played well tonight". At the other end, the Oilers fired 44 shots on goal, with Richard Bachman stopping 39 of them.
Injured San Jose Sharks centers Joe Thornton and Logan Couture took part in practice as the team begins preparing for a first-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton also has home-ice advantage, and lately they've been red-hot at Rogers Place. Unlike in years past, these Oilers will not pushed around, a big factor for their regular season success. And you don't have to match everybody goal for goal when you get 100 points.
Eberle got his hat-trick goal, and 20th of the season, just 31 seconds into the third period, converting on a spin-around feed from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
"It's been frustrating. This is usually the last day (of the season) for me", Eberle said. The crowd roared with chants of "MVP!"
"It will be very exciting", said Leon Draisaitl. He finished with 11 more points than the two runners-up, Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane, two pretty good hockey players themselves. You'll make it, I swear. This season he could have made as much as $2.85 million in performance bonuses-roughly the same amount both McDavid and Auston Matthews earned this year.

Snoop Dogg Talks Tupac's Historic Rock Hall of Fame Induction
The Hall of Fame has come a long way and we appreciate them for appreciating us for what we do. Then, a number of artists paid tribute to him via a performance of some of his biggest hits.
And then there's Milan Lucic, a veteran of 101 playoff games and a Stanley Cup in Boston.
Vancouver got a goal back from Tryamkin to close out the scoring.
"This season, when you look at the most-mentioned players overall, Connor McDavid, not surprising, was No. 1 on the Oilers, No. 2 was Cam Talbot, the goaltender, which is great and not surprising".
"We believed in ourselves in the locker room", Oilers captain Connor McDavid said.
Here's the thing about the last games of the season: there are a lot of B and C grade jokes that don't make the cut. With Edmonton on a 5 on 3 power play, Jordan Eberle's wrist shot deflected in off of Luca Sbisa. The Canucks scratched RW Jack Skille, C Griffen Molino, LW Loui Eriksson, C Joseph Cramarossa, C Brendan Gaunce and LW Yan-Pavel Laplante.
That's according to an email sent to fans Monday after the Oilers opened up ticket sales at 10 a.m.
