Harry Styles initially thought the idea behind his high-flying Sign of the Times video was an early April Fools prank.
Despite the act of savagery, the 23-year-old heartthrob has some kind words for his tormentor.
Chatting on the BBC Radio1 Breakfast Show this morning, Harry admitted that he was feeling "nervous but good" about airing his debut single for the first time. "The whole album finished then my stepdad said, 'I've one question, where did you get the duck from, how did you get a duck in the studio?' I was like, 'That was me, thanks'".
Fans gushed on Twitter, with @todays1dhistory writing: " So happy, so proud, so gorgeous, so talented, so emotional, so moving, so absolutely and impossibly in love with Harry Styles".
All that hard work and focus produced a song with a decidedly 70's rock-influenced sound.

The Telegraph's Alice Vincent called the track "curiously melancholic" but "a little boring". "Like, "I really wanna split up with her but I know she's gonna write a no. 1 single about me". "Sign of the Times" (which you can listen to here) reportedly did the press rounds by being carried around on two iPods with no internet connection to avoid hackers leaking it.
"I was with the guys who I was writing it with", he said, "and we just wanted to make what we wanted to listen to".
"It's a bit weird", he said of this new chapter in his life.
'I haven't dated for ages - I've been too busy making a movie and my solo album, ' he said. Whereas if nothing happens with it, I love it.
What Harry didn't mention in the interview is his past in One Direction or any of his former bandmates.
"Sign Of The Times" is being lauded as the next coming of David Bowie (although there are plenty of fans out there who would disagree). "Welcome to the final show, hope you're wearing your best clothes", have left people guessing.
The track certainly poses the biggest threat to Ed Sheeran's singles chart dominance, with Shape Of You shaping up for a 13th consecutive week at the top when today's chart's are officially revealed.
