Tensions have been high in Venezuela since the country's Supreme Court attempted last week to take on the functions of the opposition-controlled National Assembly.
Having been impeded from reaching the National Assembly on Tuesday, lawmakers headed to the building in downtown Caracas from dawn on Wednesday, some still nursing head wounds or bandaged arms from clashes in recent days.
Two lawmakers were injured on Monday, and authorities have arrested two political activists and two military officers since the weekend.
Protesters clashed with police in Venezuela Tuesday as the opposition mobilized against moves to tighten President Nicolas Maduro's grip on power and vowed to continue demonstrations.
But opposition leaders say that is not enough.
"We're going to get rid of them but we have to fight", said Jose Zapata, 57, as he marched with a stick in his hand.
The demonstration, which took place under the protection of the right to freedom of expression and freedom of protest, in favor of the removal of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, was violently suppressed by the Bolivarian National Police, which was joined by civilian forces in the service of the authoritarian regime installed in Caracas.
"They want an intervention in Venezuela", said the 34-year-old, who wore the red colors of the ruling Socialist Party.
The ruling was reversed, but the relations between the government and the congress remain tense.

Protesters hurled stones at riot police yesterday, who fired tear gas as they blocked the demonstrators from advancing along Libertador Avenue through central Caracas, where pro-government activists also marched. The Venezuelan opposition accused Maduro's regime of preventing a peaceful protest from occurring.
"Here the world can see the dictatorial path Mr Maduro has chosen", Capriles said.
"We support Maduro against these attacks, which seek to carry out a coup d'etat", said another demonstrator, Angelo Olivo.
"I can say now. that peace triumphed in Caracas and in Venezuela", he said.
The regional bloc on Monday urged Venezuela to restore congress' authority and guarantee separation of powers, but Venezuela's representative walked out, as did the envoy from fellow leftist Bolivia, which holds the OAS presidency.
Meanwhile, Maduro angrily rejected an OAS resolution about his country late yesterday affirming "that the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms are a basic prerequisite for the existence of a democratic society".
Due to the chaos in Caracas, the legislature postponed until Wednesday a session to censure the "rupture" of Venezuela's constitution.
The original decision of the Supreme Court elicited sharp criticism from several states in Latin and North America and prompted a special meeting of the Organization of American States, of which Venezuela is a member.
