On Thursday, nearly two years after announcing the experimental feature, Facebook released a version of M to the general public. Who knows? You may fall in love with it.
"This is just the beginning for M", Facebook product managers Laurent Landowski and Kemal El Moujahid wrote in Thursday's blog.
The only difference is that it doesn't have a voice.
The problem is "it can not scale to millions of people" says Facebook M product manager Laurent Landowski, who co-founded the natural language processing startup Wit.AI that Facebook acquired.
Instead of a full-featured assistant, new M eavesdrops on your regular Messenger conversations and then pops in "suggestions". The same thing could be said when sharing your location, whereby M would suggest you share a live location or a venue address with whomever you're chatting with. Like other virtual assistants, M aims to eliminate much of the guesswork relating to how to get paid, celebrate conversations, arrange transportation, and more - suggested responses are created to let you focus more on the discussion at hand.
To put it simply, using humans as a crutch for the do-it-all AI doesn't work when considering the 1 billion people using Facebook Messenger every month.

Senate rules then allow for up to 30 hours of "post-cloture" debate time , which Democrats are expected to use. Walker tweeted on Tuesday that Baldwin "broke her word to Wisconsinites to give Judge Gorsuch a fair shot".
If you aren't interested in M monitoring your private conversations, you can mute it in settings in Messenger. Of course, you can always ignore or dismiss an M suggestion when you want.
Sending stickers: M shares fun sticker suggestions for your daily life interactions like "Thank you" or "Bye-bye". But it does use machine learning to help with tasks like paying or requesting money, sharing locations, hailing rides or making plans with friends by suggesting actions based on what users type. It can even hail you a Lyft or Uber.
Where is Facebook M available?
Messenger, Facebook's (FB) messaging app, will start using artificial intelligence to provide suggestions to users based on their conversations, Recode reports. For instance, you'll be able to quickly share content like video and images directly from the text composer with a long press. The company said it plans to add more AI-powered features in the future, and that the software will get smarter over time as it learns your habits and preferences. Games, Payments, Share Location and Rides would soon be easily accessible through a new More tab.
