According to multiple reports, Seth Lugo has partially torn the ulnar collateral ligament in his right, throwing elbow. But he will not immediately return, as a throwing program and potential rehab starts in the minor leagues will precede his season debut in the Majors. NY said he will then start a throwing program, and the need for surgery will be determined based on how he feels after trying rehabilitation.
Instead, Lugo underwent a platelet rich plasma injection on Tuesday morning to promote healing.
He also pitched for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic last month, going 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA in three starts covering a team-high 15 innings. In 2016, Lugo made 17 appearances, including eight starts, earning a 5-2 record with a 2.67 ERA and just a 1.09 WHIP.
