Apple is going to resurrect its Mac Pro. So the entry level Mac Pro now comes with a six core processor (instead of four cores) and the FirePro D500 GPU (as opposed to a D300). The $3,999 version offers an 8-core processor and dual D700 GPUs.
At the moment, Apple has only words to reassure pro users, since the executives said that a completely redesigned Mac Pro and pro display are coming, but they won't arrive this year.
The catch? Schiller told BuzzFeed not to expect any of the company's new Pro hardware until 2018 at the earliest.
"We have big plans for the iMac", the company's senior vice president of worldwide marketing said in during a round table discussion at Apple's Machine Shop hardware prototyping lab.
"We care deeply about [pro users] and we're dedicated to communicating well with them and helping them understand what we're doing and what we're up to", Schiller said.

Apple's reconfigured Mac Pros are available starting today from the online Apple Store and Apple retail stores. Because of this, the internal cooling of the Mac Pro does not work well in this arrangement and long story short, they have to scrap the design. The Mac Pro AAPL introduced in 2013 looked cool, but its compact cylinder form factor limited upgrade options.
But on the bright side, as mentioned we will see refreshed iMacs this year, and it was interesting to hear that part of the reason the Mac Pro got put on the backburner, according to the Apple execs, was due to professional types switching to new (more powerful) iMacs in increasing numbers. However, in what appears to be a way of appeasing the company's professional power-users, Schiller appears adamant in diminishing the growing concerns that Apple had in any way "given up" on them - reiterating, once again, how Apple is fully committed to its professional users, while promising that "many great products" are in the pipeline. Although some estimates go as far as saying there are more than 1 billion Windows-powered PCs in use across the globe, Microsoft officially claims there are 400 million active users of Windows 10 itself. As they explained, Apple is "completely rethinking the Mac Pro" with a new modular design that can accommodate high-end CPUs and GPUs, as well as Apple-branded pro displays to go with them. "We think it's really important to create something great for our pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system, and that'll take longer than this year to do", Schiller said.
The company didn't share any more details about the "iMac Pro".
It also emerged that Mac Pro users will get something this year, if not new machines.
Frustration over Apple's lack of focus on its "pro" customers grew past year when Microsoft announced the Surface Studio, a 28-inch all-in-one Windows 10 PC aimed directly at creative professionals.
