13 Reasons Why, based on the book of the same name, is about a high school student who commits suicide and leaves cassette tapes behind for her classmates explaining how each of them contributed in some way to her death.
Speaking to The Straits Times and other press in NY earlier this year, she adds: "I think the parents are going to have the hardest time watching this because they don't want to see their kid being that bully or see them miss signs of the loss of Hannah".
In this series, written by Brian Yorkey and executive produced by Selena Gomez, Hannah and Clay are also mirrors that reflect how different the teen experience can be for girls versus boys.
McCarthy seems drawn to projects that bear ethical messages; asked whether he's concerned about how 13 Reasons Why might influence impressionable minds, he prefers to frame it as a series of teachable moments rather than an inexorable tragedy. The track, a haunting cover of "Only You" from '80s synthpop duo Yazoo, is inspired by the story between the main characters Hannah and Clay.
Selena Gomez is feeling especially grateful right now - all because 13 Reasons Why is finally out on Netflix.
While Gomez claimed she was "not a boss" on set, she did take a firm hand in the making of the show.Читайте также: Nunes, Comey clash on whether FBI chief invited to House Russia investigation
It's the serious subject matter that first grabbed the attention of artist and actress Selena Gomez.
The story follows Clay as he follows Hannah's account of why she took her own life - the "13 reasons" are documented on the tapes, and as Clay listens he discovers more about what could have been done to prevent this tragic event.
The series debuts on Netflix Friday.
It's true: In both the book and the show, Hannah faces ugly rumors and uglier truths (no spoilers), factors that play in to her decision to end her life. If teens are contemplating suicide to get back at bullies, they may not realize how much collateral damage they can do to people they love. Trust us when we say the cast really brought their style A-games. I can't stand social media, I can't stand what they're looking at.
