American actress Debbie Reynolds with her daughter Carrie Fisher. Fisher's mother Reynolds, who starred in such classics as Singin' In The Rain, suffered a "severe" stroke a day after her daughter's passing, and died on December 28.
The 64-year-old actor, who was once engaged to Fisher after proposing to her on the set of their 1980 film, The Blues Brothers, took the stage on Saturday to deliver an emotional tribute to the actress at the joint memorial for her and her mother at the Freedom Theater at Forest Lawn Cemetery Hollywood Hills.
Fisher's former beau Aykroyd took the podium to recall their friendship.
"If I had been with our beloved showboat, I might have been able to save her again", Aykroyd lamented.
"We all had a crush on Carrie like you wouldn't believe", he said.
"Now I know both of these magnificent women will have a song for us on our own arrival at the station", Aykroyd told the crowd.
"We Remember Them..." he wrote alongside photos of the women through the years.
Many had to sit in the lobby or outside, where the memorial was streamed on large TV screens.

"Better late than never, as they say", Todd Fisher, Reynolds' son, said before adding the public event "is a show and not a memorial, because my mother didn't like memorials and funerals".
Over 1,200 family members, friends and fans of the beloved Hollywood mother-daughter duo attended the service, almost three months after their deaths.
Star Wars droid R2-D2 appeared on stage, where he was hugged by Mr Fisher.
