Kansas wildfires have burned about 625 square miles of land and killed one person.
The fire originated across the state border in Oklahoma, where it burned an estimated 390 square miles in Beaver County. That larger fire was responsible for a death on Monday, authorities said Tuesday without providing further details. Evacuations were also ordered near Laverne and Buffalo in Harper County.
And a wildfire in Kansas is prompting evacuations. The biggest, the so-called Perryton fire, is 60 percent contained after burning 315,000 acres (127,500 hectares), according to the Texas A&M Forest Service, which tracks the blazes.
The fires across the Panhandle were so severe, Gov. Greg Abbot issued a statement Monday night saying he was sending state resources to the area to assist in fighting the fires.
As CNN reports, wildfires across the region consumed more than 1 million acres by Tuesday night and killed people five in Texas, one person in Oklahoma and one person in Kansas. The fire is contained and is now in the "mop up" stage.

The blaze jumped over both roads and requiring three planes from the Forest Service to drop water and fire retardant material to help, according to Phillip Truitt, spokesman for the Forest Service. About 545 square miles also has burned in Oklahoma, where a woman had a deadly heart attack while trying to protect her farm. A stretch of a US 54 in southern Kansas's Pratt County also was closed Monday because of smoke from a fire near a cotton gin and surrounding grassland. Governor Sam Brownback declared a state of disaster emergency March 5 for this event.
The most populated area affected is Reno County, where 10,000 to 12,000 people voluntarily evacuated their homes Monday.
Residents of several nearby communities, including recreational vehicle parks in Naples, have been evacuated.
