The landmark EU-Canada trade deal which aims to boost goods, services and investment has been given the green light by MEPs today (February 15).
The Commissioner outlined the benefits of CETA, a "progressive agreement", which alongside the SPA offers an opportunity to "upgrade" the EU-Canada relationship.
It also said for the European Union, it is a first trade pact with a G7 country and a success at a time when the bloc's credibility has taken a beating from Britain's 2016 vote to leave the grouping.
Canada's government is expected to ratify the deal in the next few months.
But US President Donald Trump as part of his election pledge ordered the withdrawal from TPP and renegotiation of NAFTA. The strength of public opposition to the deal meant that the commission conceded that national parliaments must agree before it comes into full effect, and there's every chance that that won't happen in countries like Austria and Belgium.
"More than 2,000 cities, regions and organizations have declared themselves to be "CETA-and TTIP-free-zones" and in countries like the Netherlands and Austria public protest is large", the politician said, also recalling the similar EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which is still in the negotiations stage.
The study suggested the economic benefit of the agreement would be equivalent to creating nearly 80,000 new jobs or increasing the average Canadian household's annual income by $1,000.
The vote follows a debate on the EU Canada Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement this morning. "But the disconnect between MEPs and public concerns over living standards, public health and the environment is another blow to the European Union, just when its principles of solidarity and cooperation are most needed".
Travis Wood Agrees To Deal With Royals
The spending spree for Hammel and Wood late this offseason was made in large part because of the tragic death of Yordano Ventura. Primarily a starter during his first five big league seasons, Wood was moved to the bullpen by the Cubs in 2015.

Suspect convicted in 1979 murder of 6-year-old Etan Patz
On the earlier jury, the lone holdout against conviction cited the mental health issue as a major reason for his stance. Hernandez had worked as a deli clerk in the neighborhood at the time of Patz's disappearance.
She said that building walls doesn't do any good, referring to Trump, and added that the right way is through just and balanced trade agreements.
The deal was finally signed in Brussels last October with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau present.
French National Front leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen claimed the "terrible" agreement will undermine thousands of jobs in Europe and eliminate the rights of governments to legislate.
International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne was already in Strasbourg ahead of the vote.
Most centre-left Socialist & Democrat group in the European Parliament agreed to back CETA in an internal meeting yesterday evening.
The legislature was approved by a margin on 408-254, with 33 abstentions.
"So it's shameful that so many MEPs in voting for Ceta have come down in favour of the army of corporate lobbyists that have been howling for this deal rather than the voices of the ordinary people that they are supposed to represent".
